Exercise is an important part of any healthy lifestyle. While different people choose to get their exercise in different ways, such as running, weightlifting, or recreational sports, the end goal remains the same: to keep your body in the best shape possible. A lot of people even do yoga as a form of exercise, yet there are many critics that say yoga isn’t rigorous enough to be an exercise. They couldn’t be more wrong. Those that don’t believe yoga is rigorous often think that way because they’ve never done yoga for themselves. Just like anything, a lack of experience often goes hand-in-hand with a lack of knowledge, and these people are often just going by what they see. What they think they see is people stretching, meanwhile they’re actually working out specific muscles in different parts of their bodies. However, there is one form of yoga which looks more like a conventional workout and that’s American power yoga. By modelling itself after more traditional aerobics while still using the same techniques and many of the same poses as standard yoga, American power yoga gives the best of both worlds: the conventional workout and the modern yoga practice.

For Your Body

One of the many benefits of doing yoga is the way that it tones your muscles. You can really see the difference in just a short period of time, as your muscles become firmer and more defined. Because holding a pose is specifically targeted a particular muscle group, certain poses can actually be extremely intense exercises. Power yoga simply furthers the intensity of the exercise by keeping things fast paced. There’s a lot more moving in power yoga and that can make you feel more engaged. At the same time, the increased movement compared to conventional yoga can actually be very good for burning calories too.
