Perhaps it was from a grandparent or parent or within your earlier years in school; however, more than likely these ten words have been spoken to you within your lifetime. It is advice which is so universal that versions of it may be discovered in most of the world’s religions and cultures throughout history. It is the fundamental belief that if everybody were to consider others the way they consider themselves, we’d have a less stressful, more productive, and all ‘round nicer world. Here are six ways to get started using The Golden Rule in the workplace:

Be mindful of all deadlines you establish. Respect the time of other people and do not request something today if you realistically wont’ have the ability to work on it ‘til next week.

Feeling upset? Take a moment to reflect. Checking your emotions at the front door does not work, these things are going to affect you. Knowing what’s happening in your mind and how it’ll affect your mood will assist you in being a better coworker and boss.

Get familiar with your employees. Just like knowing yourself, getting familiar with your employees is going to assist you in seeing when something is troubling them. Take some time to understand a bit more about who they are as individuals, not merely as employees.

Acknowledge hard work and say “Thank You”. You appreciate it when somebody creates a thank you note or acknowledges your hard work within a meeting—do the exact same for other people. It’ll help to build up mutual respect and trust in your team.

Understand that things do not always work and errors happen. Occasionally a sale is lost or a deadline is missed. Encourage workers to learn from every bump.
