There are many reasons a truck can overheat, but usually the main culprit is the radiator. A radiator keeps the engine of a truck cool by moving water or coolant through it. If there is something wrong with the radiator, this process stops. As a result, the truck can overheat, and the engine can be damaged.
Preventing Overheating Radiators
It is easy to prevent radiators from overheating by checking the levels of coolant in them. Since water easily evaporates, a mixture of water and coolant needs to be used in truck radiators all year long. In the summer, it keeps water from evaporating due to heat, and in the winter, the coolant keeps the engine from freezing. However, if the radiator is leaking, then a radiator replacement in Michigan may be necessary.
Damage to Radiators
Radiators can be easily damaged because they are bolted to the frame of the truck at the front of the engine where sharp debris or an accident can easily impair them. If they have been punctured, then you may see coolant leaking from them, and a radiator replacement may be necessary. Most truck mechanics can do a Michigan radiator replacement when they have been severely damaged.
Radiator Leaks
Sometimes a leak is easy to detect if you see coolant on the ground or smell it when the engine is running. If you see either sign, you shouldn’t run your truck until the leak is found and fixed. Sometimes leaks occur due to the failure of the radiator, which can be caused by an accumulation of rust and sediment in the bottom of it.
When this happens, a radiator replacement will be necessary before other damage occurs. While radiators can be rebuilt, a damaged or dirty radiator should be replaced to make sure the truck is adequately cooled so other problems are prevented.
